Recommendations:

Capacitors: The tweeter capacitor is in an “in-line” position and is the most critical in this design. It should be given the strongest consideration for upgrade.

This should also be supplemented with a small bypass capacitor, which is being offered. The bypass capacitor helps to further improve the speed of dissipation.

The woofer capacitor is in a shunt-position and is less critical. The high-quality options offered for this component are deliberately limited to prioritize budget efficiency and to avoid outspending the component’s role in the circuit.

Inductors: The woofer inductor benefits from a comparatively low inductance value. It is the most critical to the woofer’s performance. Due to its low inductance value, upgrading to a 14ga aircore inductor can be done affordably. 16ga should be considered as the minimum baseline, with 14ga as a strong recommendation to maximize potential.

The smaller tweeter inductor is less critical and a 16ga aircore would still be considered a premium for this design and placement. 18ga is acceptable in this position and is chosen as default, and 16ga would be considered a very reasonable upgrade. Upgrading this inductor to 14ga should take a lower priority and should be selected only after having first upgraded the woofer inductor and tweeter capacitor.

Resistors: We have kept it very simple here. High-Quality resistors are very affordable and this design only utilizes 2 resistors in each speaker. For the “in-line” tweeter resistor, we are providing 1 pair of premium non-inductive Ohmite Audio Gold 10 watt resistors (discounted to $6/each). For the shunt-position resistor, 1 pairs of GR-Research 10 watt resistors ($4/each) is provided.

We don’t see a need for $30 or even $10  resistors in this design but if you feel that need, email us and we can modify a package for you.

Wiring: The design incorporates 2 drivers in an approximately 16.5″ tall cabinet. 10ft of each color is plenty to allow for clean crossover installation with all new internal wiring.  If you want extra wire for another project, the 20ft wire option is also provided.  You may purchase the kit without our wire.

We do think our wiring is the best value available. Premium wire without the traditional markups. Both versions are very similar, 16ga solid strand, high-purity OFC, Polyethylene insulator.  The “unbranded” is imported, the “Premium USA” version is not. Wire details are here.

Crossover assembly option:  Complete assembly of your crossover boards is available. A $150 assembly fee includes the assembly labor, crossover boards, and all small incidentals (zip-ties, heat shrink as needed). It also includes the additional shipping cost associated with assembled crossovers (size and weight, including additional padding of assembled boards).
