We have started with the recommended components selected as the default. You may select upgrades or downgrades based on your preferences.

This design benefits from comparatively low inductance values in the design, which allows for the use of premium, large gauge inductors.

To further aid in your assembly, we are offering you empty crossover boards ($10), already sized to the design’s specifications. We use premium Baltic birch. It is an expensive material, and not everyone wants to buy a small $35 sheet when they only need much smaller pieces.

Complete assembly of your crossover boards is available. $150 assembly fee includes the crossover boards and all small incidentals (zip-ties, heat shrink as needed). Assembly is for the pair of crossovers only. Assembly capacity is limited, with a 2-week estimated turnaround time, and is only offered as an add-on. Recommendations:

Capacitors: 3 pairs of capacitors in the design. The smaller value capacitor on the tweeter, is the priority and should be the first to be considered for upgrades.

Even the most affordable options offered for the woofer capacitors are still high-quality and would still  be considered a quality upgrade above what is typically included with most factory (OEM) crossovers. If budget is your primary concern, saving money on the two woofer capacitors is your most reasonable savings.

Bypass capacitors: Small 0.01 uF bypass capacitors are offered as default for the tweeter and primary woofer capacitors, where they will have the greatest impact. That option can be removed, or upgraded. Premium options are offered from the Obbligato Copper and Silver Series . These are high-quality, fast, clean, and resolving capacitors, representing a great value at $3.50 each for the Copper Series and $4.50 each for the Silver Series.

Inductors: 14-gauge is offered as the default (as specified by the designer) and is very much a premium tier component. A 16-ga option is also offered ($24 savings) and should be considered as a “minimum” for this design, so no 18-ga option is offered. As you see in the designers plans, this series design allows the tweeter and woofer circuits to both benefit from the larger gauge inductors.

Resistors: We have kept it very simple here. High-Quality resistors are very affordable. We are providing 3 pairs of GR-Research 10 watt resistors.  We don’t see a need for $30 or even $10  resistors in this design but if you feel that need, email us and we can modify a package for you.

Wiring: The design plans have the crossover mounted near the top rear of the cabinet. 15ft of each color is plenty for that mounting location. If you may vary the plans to mount crossovers near the base, or want extra wire for another project, the 30ft wire option is also provided.  You may purchase the kit without our wire.

We do think our wiring is the best value available. Premium wire without the traditional markups. Both versions are very similar, 16ga solid strand, high-purity OFC, Polyethylene insulator.  The “unbranded” is imported, the “Premium USA” version is not. Wire details are here.
